For my first Community Spotlight video, I was inspired to share the story of Kuilei Cliffs. I started volunteering with Kuilei Cliffs in November of 2023, but I have witnessed their incredible work for much longer. The cliffs of Diamond Head are a treasured place to many. While volunteering, you will see surfers walking up and down the pathway, runners jogging their usual path, and community members who would like to sit and enjoy the view. I myself have enjoyed my time at these cliffs before even realizing the work that had been in progress, whether that be watching the waves from the green space or rushing down with my surfboard to surf with my friends and family. The wonderful team at Kuilei Cliffs has worked consistently to improve this space that was previously uncared for being covered with endless weeds and overgrown trees. The team at Kuilei Cliffs aims to restore this space by planting grass and native Hawaiian plants, removing weeds, and maintaining the area. The drastic difference they have made is noticeable and has further allowed the community to come together and enjoy this place we call home. I encourage everyone who to come and volunteer! You will be sure to see the warm energy and rewarding experience that volunteering here provides and see for yourself the amazing improvements being made each week. Volunteering takes place every Saturday from 8:00-11:00 a.m and lunch is provided at 11:00(it is always delicious). Learn more at their website linked above.
